Title: THE BAMBOO GROVE PRESENTS: "WHO IS 'THE OTHER?'"
Description: We see it constantly: it’s us against them – nosy neighbors, prying relatives, the have-nots, the “foreigners,” the Evil Empire, the government, and on and on - everyone who doesn’t agree with our enlightened perspective. We tend to treat our personal viewpoints as the whole of reality. Because we have this ego-centered view, understanding how we look at ourselves and how we regard others is of fundamental importance. The Buddhist perspective is that there is nothing that the word “I” genuinely denotes; that our sense of “MY-self” is a fiction. This means that our perception of “The Other” is an illusion as well. On Thursday, February 9th at 7:00 p.m., Ven. Shih Ming-Xing, Ven. Shih Yun-Shan and Ven. Shih Qin-Hao will explore where this sense of “The Other” comes from and now we may get beyond this view for the sake of understanding and peace. Everyone’s invited to come and participate in this vital examination. The Bamboo Grove is an initiative of CloudWater Zendo, the Zen Center of Cleveland, designed to help people strengthen themselves spiritually. Upcoming Bamboo Grove programs include "Qigong for Vitality" on Feb. 11th, "My Breath, Myself" on Feb. 23rd & March 2nd, and "Charging Our Brains" on Feb. 25th.
