Title: Ullambana Memorial Service and Zendo Picnic
Description: Ullambana is the traditional day for Buddhists to commemorate their departed family members. Ullambana is a festival of liberation which advocates and reinforces the concept of filial piety. The word "Ullambana" is a transliteration of the Sanskrit word meaning "deliverance from suffering." Over the centuries, Ullambana has become a festival not only for the commemoration of ancestors, but also for remembering to repay our parents' love. Our own Ullambana observance will commemorate all departed loved ones including our parents. Following the Ullambana service, there will be a vegetarian/vegan potluck picnic. Attendees are requested to bring foods that their departed loved ones may have enjoyed during life and/or foods that their departed loved ones may have prepared during their lives. The Ullambana observance will take place at the North Mastick Picnic Area of the Rocky River Metroparks, about 3 miles from the Zendo.
